Ontario Secondary School courses have a five character code.It can be broken down as follows;

Sample Course Code “MCV4U

1- The first 3 letters identify the subject. (M) represents the department and (CV) “Calculus and Vectors” is the course name.

  • B=Business
  • C=Canadian and World Studies
  • E=English
  • F=French
  • G=Guidance and Career Education
  • H=Humanities and Social Sciences
  • L=International Languages
  • M=Mathematics
  • P=Physical Education
  • S=Sciences
  • T=Technology

 

2- The number (4) represents the grade level.

  • 1 – Grade 9
  • 2 – Grade 10
  • 3 – Grade 11
  • 4 – Grade 12 

 

3- The last letter (U) shows the course type.

  • P=Applied
  • L=Locally dDeveloped
  • O=Open

 

Grade 11 and 12
